Edwardian & Federation
Circa 1901 – 1910
The reign of King Edward VII was so brief that it lasted less than ten years. Despite this the Edwardian style is quite well known and in fact quite popular. In this time, and closer to home, Australian federation occurred at approximately the same time as the new King ascended to the throne. This saw a departure from the often austere Victorian style and accompanied by the rise of Art Nouveau in Europe, a softer and more organic style was born.
